Please talk me out of it". - I am tempted to post one of the excellent unreleased tracks the Wipers' cd box set provides, but I don't want to spoil any surprises for Wipers fans who haven't picked it up yet. I was a hardcore skateboarder from the mid-80's into the early 90's and "What's So Strange About Me?" was always one of my favorites from the classic Santa Cruz Skateboards video Wheels of Fire. My friends and I would watch that video to get pumped before we hit the streets, and when I hear the song now I can "feel" the vibe from that time in my life. The Redcoats Are Coming! split up. It's such a shame because these girls had attics-full of gorgeous, spooky charm, and a sick amount of talent (not just musically... check out their myspace and follow the links to their individual websites). On the other hand, my brother says he loves when good bands break up, because each member then forms their own band and now you have 3 great groups instead of one! - "Ring the Bell" is taken from a release that I am going to call The White CDR. I love all the random clicks and chimes that saturate this track. Really beautiful stuff.

Raw and rad post-hardcore attack from Southern California... circa 1994. Chad and Devin are now in Medications (just one of many other projects they've been involved in). The "1917-2917 : 1000 year reign of terror" 7-inch was recorded on a 4-track and pressed on almost completely smooth vinyl. Trust me, no amount of record cleaning can remove the snap, crackle, and pop from this release on Youth Strike Chord (awesome label, more to come from them). Somehow, that comforts me.

Dance Disaster Movement

Ok, it's my first post and I'm going to hit you with some live Dance Disaster Movement. This is two songs from their first album, recorded at KUCI in 2003. I can't remember if I worked the mixing board or not on this one, but I dig the way it sounds. All the instruments (and the vocals) are seriously panned either left or right, and it makes for a really crisp mix. Observant listeners may notice some sounds starting out in one speaker (either the left, or right), and then jumping to the other speaker. This is because DDM looped sounds using a guitar pedal... so if Kevin played guitar out of his amp (which was panned hard left) and then stomped on his pedal to make the riff loop.... the looped sounds would shift to his other amp (which was panned hard right). Killer drumming on these tracks too.
